Tsunami Warning

Tsunami warning for our area last night around 9:10. I went out to Table Bluff and shot some long exposure. Didn't see anything larger, but it was dark.

September 11 Memorial

Here are a few images from the September 11 Memorial held today in Fortuna. I had the pleasure of driving a rather distinguished veteran in the parade. Gordon and his wife Lucille are two wonderful people that you simply cannot help but like. Gordon is a WWII, Korean, and Vietnam Veteran, as well as a former POW in Germany during WWII. Gordon will be the subject of a future blog, so stay tuned. If you have not been to this memorial, I would strongly suggest that you go. Next year it should be on Saturday, and is an event that will remind you of the sacrifices our firefighters and police sometimes have to make. All of the area Fire Departments are represented, and I really would like to thank them for their service and the work they do. I think it was 343 firefighters that were lost that day eight years ago, and they all died running towards the buildings, or in them. Don't forget to thank a Fireman, a Policeman or a Veteran for their services. It makes all the difference in the world.

Coast Guard Training

Took this last winter. Will be back with a longer lens next time. This is a large crop. It is a lot of fun to watch these guys. They will do this for an hour or so, backing into the waves at speed and almost submerging the boat. These are self-righting boats. They can roll completely over and will bring themselves back up. Very impressive. Back in the day I worked on the boat house renovations that allowed these boats to be housed here. We had to raise the boat house a few feet and put in new docks and facilities to support the new boats. Very nice equipment for a very important and dangerous job. My hat is off to these guys.

Been a While: Random Pics

Thought I had better get something up. A little 4th of July, and some family.

More stuff to come soon.
