Memorial Day 2009

Here are a sampling of images from the Memorial Day Celebration in Ferndale. As I said in the teaser, you should really come to this event. There is a reason it is the longest continually running Memorial Day Parade in the United States. Enjoy.

Memorial Day Teaser

Yes a teaser. A heavy workload has me a bit behind. The good news is I have just finished my last wedding, and will be able to catch up. I will be posting some of those soon, but thought I would throw up one from Memorial Day. I will be posting more from Memorial Day later this week. Taken in Ferndale, it is the longest continuous running Memorial Day parade in the United States. Always a great experience, and always a huge crowd for such a small town. I would suggest you come if you have never been.
Enjoy, Dave

Fernbridge and a Seat for Two

Another of Fernbridge. The contrast of the junk car seat and a majestic bridge are what drew me to take this photograph. I feel it turned out well. And don't worry about the seat, Lost Coast 4x4 will clean up the river in the fall. I feel compelled to say though, its a real dumbass that dumps their garbage on the river bar.

Enjoy, Dave

Athen & Hillary's Reception

Hillary is the daughter of a friend, and we attended their wedding at the Scotia Inn as guests. Of course after the photographer left I had to break out my camera for the reception. The light and the mood was perfect for the way I like to shoot. With the lights dimmed, the Scotia Inn offers some great light. All of these shots are using available light only. No flash is used. ISO for those intersted was 1600 with EV of -1 to get an acceptable shutter speed. All shots were taken with a Canon XTI and a 50 f1.4 lens shot at 1.4. The effective ISO with an EV of -1 is 3200. There are a few shots in brighter areas that are shot at 800.

I love this style of shooting. It enables you to catch the moments as they happen. I think as you look through these, you will see what I mean.

Hope you enjoy, Dave

Prom Pictures

Finally, some images. Prom shots from the Ferndale Prom. Three young couples all dressed up. We had a good shoot and got some great pics. The portraits of the girls are natural light and the couples shots or lit with two flashes.

Enjoy, Dave
